Possibly you have justified America's proxy war in Ukraine, or the genocide rained down upon Palestinians with full cooperation of the American Empire. Perhaps you noticed that Biden sent a “defense” budget to Congress of 886 Billion dollars. Please be aware that the next countries to incur the wraith of the Empire are Iran and China. Since the assassinations of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy (and the Vietnam War that had much to do with all three) it has been hard for historically-literate and open-minded Americans to generate much patriotic fervor on the Fourth of July. But they should have been skeptical long before those idealism-shattering events. My own seriously deficient high school education in world and American history has necessitated decades of catch-up reading and research in order to find the truth about the dark, covered-up  underbelly of America.

The infamous decision of the NeoConservative, pro-corporate, US Supreme Court in their infamous “Citizens United” decision in 2010 has further strengthened the already powerful and over-privileged status of the corruptible, purely profit-mitivated, multinational corporations that control most everything in the United States. The 5-4 decision has made into law the absurd notion that corporations deserve the same rights as individual human citizens.

The most recent episode in the peculiarly American epidemic of mass shootings happened yesterday, March 22, 2021, in Boulder, Colorado. Everybody knows the bare details as broadcast on the mainstream media and most people are expecting the seemingly inevitable – and illogical – revenge/retaliations against Middle Eastern immigrants.

The lone shooter in Boulder was a 21-year-old Syrian-born man named Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa. He hasadmitted to the shooting.

A week earlier Alissa had legally purchased the murder weapon, a semiautomatic AK-15-style Ruger assault pistol.

This column was published as a Duty to Warn column in the Duluth Reader on April 17, 2014. I came across a copy of it recently and thought, given the impeachment trial of the demagogue Donald J. Trump and the frequent mention of Big Lies in the press, that it should be re-published.

The information has a lot to say about America’s on-going right-wing extremism and the repeated attempts of these groups to usurp American democracy. Examples include the Ku Klux Klan and the related White Supremacist groups that include Anti-Semitic, Racist, Anti-immigrant and Homophobic groups, all entities that have never really disappeared from the scene.
