Tearing Down Our Emotional Walls

War, war and more war.

It’s only possible for one reason: the belief that only some people are fully human. Those who aren’t . . . well, they can be killed when necessary. My inner scream at this false reality we feed ourselves — via the media, via mainstream politics — keeps getting louder and louder. Is there a way to get things to change?

To put it another way: Is there a way to transcend the abstract view of Planet Earth in which global politics operates? We have religion. We have values: Be kind, be loving, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you” — but they don’t seem to manifest collectively. At the collective, that is to say, the political, level, only so much kindness can be tolerated. In terms of security, kindness is weakness.

Trump's threat 'hell, to pay' if October 7 hostages are not released is misdirected

President-elect Trump often trashes the press and threatens journalists and foreign leaders. Last Monday, he pledged "hell to pay" if October 7 hostages were not released before his inauguration day on January 20. However, his Rambo-style mentality is misdirected. His language is not only ugly and repellent, but it also implies that he needs to be deciphered.
 
"Hell, to pay" is an idiomatic expression that means to warn someone that someone will be very angry if a particular thing happens or if it does not happen.

Vicious attacks by Republican thugs on Congresswomen Omar and Tlaib should stop

Florida state senator Randy Fine made international news this week, and even the Times of India picked up the story. Fine, who will be running for a Congressional seat being vacated by Mike Waltz, Donald Trump's nominee for national security advisor, issued an open threat to the two Muslim Congresswomen, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar. With a 'Bombs Away' hashtag, Fine wrote, “The Hebrew Hammer is coming.” Fine, who is Jewish, wrote in a post on X, “[Rashida Tlaib] and [Ilhan Omar] might consider leaving before I get there.” Fine's campaign has been endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump.
 
Fine bragged about being endorsed by the Republican Jewish Coalition this week by referring to himself as the “Hebrew Hammer” while tagging Omar and Tlaib in a tweet. Fine is not running in the state of Minnesota or Michigan. Instead of calling himself the "Hebrew Hammer," it would be more accurate if he called himself the "Jewish Elephant." That way, it would sound more Republican and less threatening.

 What the iconic anti-colonial philosopher and psychiatrist was essentially arguing is that the mind must be decolonized first, in order for the undoing of colonialism to succeed in all aspects of our liberation.  

 Many in the Global South, but especially intellectuals and analysts concerned with Middle Eastern affairs, are still struggling with their relationship with the United States.
