Looming Fascism and the Question of Hope
When some leading thinkers at the London School of Economics saw fascism take hold in the 1930s, Oxford history professor Ben Jackson said in a recent BBC interview, they “argued that in those circumstances the people with economic power in society, the property owners, are willing to cancel democracy, cancel civil liberties, and make deals with political organizations like the Nazis if it guarantees their economic interest.”
Hurray, Trump gave Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo the middle finger!
Voting against Genocide - How Gaza Defeated the Democratic Establishment
Arab and Muslim American voters did not remove Democrats from office, nor did they cost Kamala Harris the Oval Office. They merely sent a strong message that Palestine matters, not only to Arabs and Muslims but to many Americans as well.
The ones who cost the Democrats the elections are the Democrats themselves. Their humiliating defeat on November 5 was due largely to their undeniable role in the Israeli war and genocide in Gaza.
Peter Beinart put it best in his November 7 op-ed in the New York Times, entitled "Democrats Ignored Gaza and Brought Down Their Party."
Can Politics Merge With a Sane Future?
“America is for Americans – Americans only!”
The words are those of Stephen Miller, speaking last month at the infamous Madison Square Garden rally, but they define Donald Trump. This is the message – the cry from the mountaintop – he brought to the country . . . at least to approximately half of it. It’s the unifying force behind his campaign, both pragmatically and spiritually. It transcends politics and cuts to people’s deepest values and deepest fears.
It’s why he won: Donald the Outsider, standing up to the Washington status quo, opening the doors of the American government and letting its citizens flow in (legally this time, without breaking doors and windows). America is for Americans – sieg heil!

Global Warming:
The most damage will be done not to country but to the planet. Global Warming (renamed benignly as Climate Change) is already upon us in the form of Hurricane Helene flooding in the Appalachian mountains (Asheville, NC area), forest fire infernos in Maui, Hawaii and Paradise, California and the current fires in Santa Paula area of California. Epic flooding has occurred in Spain, Italy, Thailand, Bangladesh, Morocco and Algeria. Flooding in Africa has affected Benin, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Togo. Typhoon Yagi struck China, the Philippines, and Vietnam. It was the first Category 4 or stronger typhoon to make landfall in Vietnam.
